Before or after?
A side-to-side on how we earn respect

Some things give first, like being president, like being coach, like being class captain, like becoming a father. And even though you have a track record that says you can, we don’t know that for sure… the one way to find out is to put you in charge. So first, you become, and hopefully, we didn’t make a mistake…
Other things give after, like becoming a heavyweight champion and winning a Nobel prize or a marathon. You have to prove yourself first.
Those who change the world care more about their work and the change they make than their title.
Either way, genuine respect almost always comes after.
