Choose Decisiveness Over Decision
Read this if you struggle with perfectionism
We get into this or that situations all the time.
Sometimes the stakes are high and other times they are not (like tea or coffee).
The more similar the options, the harder it is to choose, and even more when the stakes are high.
I struggle with this myself.
It’s also something when you struggle with perfectionism (that crazy monster that leads to indecision and stalling). Decisions are a chore. You always want to do it right.
But here’s what I’ve figured — You have to be decisive.
Not at the expense of good consideration but if you get into a loop of considerations, what you need to do is be decisive.
Knowing this helps me a lot when I get into similar options and somewhat high-stake decision-making situations. And actually all through life.
Being decisive is not sacrificing good judgment, it’s taking the lead and owning the outcome.
It’s prioritizing progress alongside good judgment. It makes you efficient!
Most times, when we take so long to decide, we are hardly weighing the options, we are just scared, and practicing decisiveness helps build confidence.
Did I say practice?
Yes, and you can start with what to wear or even “tea or coffee”.
Just choose! and if the coffee is a mess, own your choice. Now you know how coffee should not be made or served… a better sense of judgment.
And not everything ends up like tea and coffee, there are loads of lessons waiting to be learned. You just need to decide
I’ll end with two quotes One by Brené and the other by… unknown
“Perfectionism is a twenty-ton shield that we lug around thinking it will protect us when, in fact, it’s the thing that’s really preventing us from taking flight.” — Brené Brown
“Perfectionism is not about striving for excellence or doing your best; it’s about trying to earn approval and acceptance through flawless performance.” — Unknown
Perfect is unattainable, progress is. And the way to make progress is to choose to.
