Thoughts and Coffee

The Thinking Practice

What’s the first thing you do in the morning?

For me, it’s to grab a cup of coffee, sit in my bed and think. I feel like my thoughts are at the purest state in the morning, so, that is when I think about the most important things, mind map my ideas and analyze the day. It’s actually a form of meditation.

Here’s what I’ve learned, thinking about things (for me, in the morning), and sometimes making decisions about them before stepping out, helps me to react less and be more productive.

The less you react, the more you are in charge of your life and in control of your emotions you are.

If you want to be proactive, not reactive especially as a leader, this practice can get you there.

When you wake up before you get into any activity (including emails and social media), think about your day, your ideas, the problems you need to solve, the work you might do, unresolved issues and make any decision you have to make concerning any of them, then, write what you need to execute and see how productive and proactive you get.

Studies say, people who engage in this practice are happier and generally live longer.

If you are like me, grab a cup of coffee and dive right into your thoughts.

Great news! My friend Minomi has asked that we write a few articles together. I can wait to co-author some awesomeness with her. We just might publish something this week. Stick around.
