Your Circle Of Influence

And how big an impact you can have on the climate

Overwhelmed by the enormity of climate change?

You can recycle aluminum and glass, but that feels too little.

You can also run for local office, but that might be too much.

Here’s a suggestion: Start with an individual measure you’re already taking and 10x that action.

Some examples:

  • Shop at a supermarket? See if you can convince the store manager to buy compostable produce bags.
  • Have a kid on a soccer team? See if you can get disposable plastic bottles banned from the soccer field.
  • Know the fleet manager at your company? Discuss buying electric vehicles or hybrids for the fleet.
  • Know the scout leader in your town? See if hanging “no idling” signs at popular pickup spots might be a project the troop would undertake.

Thinking bigger than yourself, but not too big, is the key to seeing the systems around you over which you have some influence.

Please forward this email to someone you know in charge of a system (small or large) that could be more Earth-friendly.
